Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese art which has been practiced for
over 1000 years. Kumihimo means plaited cords, more commonly
referred to today as braids. The traditional method used groups of
fine silk threads and a special stand called a marudai to create the
braids. |

These foam kumihimo disks allow even a beginner to create beautiful
braids with ease, using many different types of fibers. The finished
braid will be about half the length of the original fibers, or
slightly less
depending on the type of fibers used. Kits include one foam kumihimo
disk, eight E-Z bobs, my own instruction sheet, and eight two yard
lengths of cord for practicing. |

There are many excellent books on braiding available, as well as
books on making jewelry using fibers. The following
are links to some great books that I own and have found to be really
helpful and interesting. |
